Located in the east part of the Xinjiang Province, is often referred as an "oasis in the desert". Its climate is very hot and dry in the summer, with an average temperature between 47 and 50 degrees Celsius.

This site used to be the burying place for the inhabitants of the city of Gaochang from 273 to 778. It lies 40 km from the city of Turpan.

In ancient time, it was one of the most important cities on the Silk Road, but nowadays only the ruins remain.

It is only 10 km away from Turpan City in the west direction.

This is a very old irrigation system, since it dates back to 2,000 years ago. It is formed by a dam, a ditch and underground channels.

Today, it is a ghost city, built in the 1^st century b.C. and abandoned at the end of the 13^th century. During that period it was a flourishing city on the Silk Road, on the foot of the Flaming Mountains.
