Dunghuang City

It was one of the main trading places along the Silk Road and was very famous especially during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is an oasis in the huge Gobi Desert. Still extant today it is a very cultural and historical city.

Mogao Grottoes

Located 25 km from the city of Dunhuang, these caves were carved on the rope of Mount Mingsha, to a height of about 1,600 meters. Still extant are 492 caves that host more than 45,000 square meters of frescoes and 2,415 coloured statues. For this reason Mogao Grottoes are also known as "The Grottoes of Thousand Buddha Images" (Qianfodong).

Mingsha Hill

Minsha Hill, located at about 5 km from the city of Dunhuang, is an exiting attraction for tourists who like to slide down a slope from it. The name Mingsha means "Buzzing Sands", and that is what it really happens sliding down!

Yueya Spring

Yueya means "Crescent Moon". The spring derived its name from its shape. It is 100 meter long and 25 meter wide. Yueya Spring is quite peculiar since, despite the frequent sandstorms; it never gets buried by sand.
