Yungang Grottoes

Yangang Grottoes are situated on the foot of Mount Wuzhou, 10 km from Datong in the west direction. They host magnificent Buddhist sculptures and carvings. Yungang Grottoes are among the four most famous grottoes in China housing Buddhist Sculptures and carvings. This Grottoes started to be carved in 453 a.C. and today there are still 53 caves with over 51,000 stone carvings. The largest statue, representing a Buddha is 17 meters high, while the smallest only a few centimetres.

Yingxiang Wooden Pagoda

It is the oldest and tallest wooden pagoda still extant in the world and it is located 70 km south of the city of Datong. Yingxiang Pagoda was built in 1056 and it is 66,6 meters high and it has a diameter of 30 meters with a weight of 300 tons. More than 3,500 cubic meters of wood where used to build it.

Mount Wutai

Wutai means "five peaks". This beautiful natural site is surrounded by mountains hosting Buddhist temples, in fact, it has been known as one of the four most sacred places in China since ancient times. It is situated 230 km away from the city of Taiyuan.

Jinci Temple

Situated 25 km from Taiyuan City, it has a history of 1,400 years. Jinci Temple is also very famous for being one of the masterpieces of the traditional Chinese garden style and architecture. It has more than one hundred buildings of which many of them are important for the history of Chinese architecture, such as the Hall of Holy Mother, the Double Wooden Bridge of the Song Dynasty ( 960-1279), and Xiandian Hall of the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234).

Midair Temple in Mount Hengshan

It is located in the canyon at the foot of Hengshan Mountain. The Midair Temple was built during the Wei Dynasty (384-534) on the canyon walls. It looks like it is hung in midair! The 40 halls are all made by wood.
