The Yangtse River, which originates in the Qingzang plateau and receives waters also from various tributaries, flows eastwards forming beautiful scenic spots, the most famous is the one called "Three Gorges". The Xiling Gorge is long 44 km and has many scenic spots and historical sites. Among those, the most famous is the Huangling Temple.

It is the smaller of the Three Gorges, only 8 km long, but the most interesting, dotted with many historical places such as Meng Liang Staircase, the Ancient Zhandao (foothpath), the Kui Gate, the Seven Gate Cave, Bellows Gorge, and the Rhinoceros Watching the Moon.
