Beijing Brief Introduction
Beijing, the capital of the People' s Republic of China, is also the national cultural and political centre. It is an ancient and modern city at the same time. Its story reaches back as 300,000-500,000 years ago. Fragment of the so-called "Peking man" were found in a village near the present-days city. But it is in the last 1,000 years that it has become the real centre of the cultural and political life of China since it was made capital in 1151, during the Jing Reign (1115-1234). It became a metropolitan e multi-cultural city under the reign of Kubilai Khan, during the Yuan Dyansty (1271-1378). The square plant that the city still holds nowadays, was laid during the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644). After the 1911 Revolution, Beijing became an even more important political city. It was from Tian'an men, that on October 1st 1949, it was proclaimed the foundation of the People' s Republic of China, with Beijing as its capital. Today the city is a mixture of ancient and modern architecture.
