The Bridge School is a Chinese language training school elected ¡°The Best Chinese Language School¡± by City Weekend's Readers¡¯ Survey.

Since the opening of The Bridge School in 1993, we have built a reliable team of professional teachers and have won the recognition from our customers. Each year, over 3,500 people from more than 60 countries attend our school to learn Chinese.

Additionally, our teachers teach with books designed by The Bridge School. These books have received excellent reviews from our students because they are tailored specifically to cover the most practical and useful topics needed by our students¡¯ in everyday life.

All year around, free lectures on different topics are available for you. A well-designed teacher training system ensures the high quality of teaching is maintained. In order to strengthen and enhance our standards, customer service and evaluation process are put into practice.

We call the students two to three weeks after the class and request their opinions about the class and act accordingly depending on the issues involved. The Bridge School can be found at two convenient locations: Guang Ming Hotel near the Embassy areas and e-Tower near China World Center. Group classes and private classes are available for the students. Class schedules are flexible.

Vocabulary: about 800 About 180 key sentence patterns Survival Chinese related to our daily life in China. Such as order different foods at a restaurant, taking a transportation tool, go shopping, see a doctor, go to post office, introduce him/herself and her/his family background, have a tour, attend a Party, rent a house, find a job and other related issues, have entertainment, go to fitness club; basic construction of Chinese characters, a preliminary ability to recognize about 100-150 characters This level is designed to mainly improve the learner¡¯s ability and confidence in spoken Chinese.

Level 3 ¡¶Meeting China¡·published by Peking University Press &¡¶Chinese For Beginners & Chinese Character Workbook¡·published by Peking Languages Institute Press. Vocabulary: about 1500 About 280 key sentence patterns Great improvement in spoken and listening. Deal with daily life and social events about job and related issues. Read short and easy articles, express opinions in some advanced sentence patterns with a normal speed, be familiar with Chinese character structure recognize about 450 Chinese characters.

Level 4 ¡¶Intermediate Spoken Chinese ¢ñ¡·published by Peking University Press. Vocabulary: about 2000 About 380 key sentence patterns Be able to express point of view in daily life, at work and at social events freely. Have no difficulty in daily life language, meet job requirements such as arranging meeting and drafting schedules, talking about company organization structure, future plans, business negotiations and organizing recruitment, read short articles in newspaper and magazines and general tables and report data, be able to recognize about 1000 Chinese characters.

Level 5 Vocabulary: about 2500 About 500 key sentence patterns, be able to use Chinese language freely. Discuss about social problems, have simple speech. Completely express opinions in a paragraph with fluent and correct words and grammars, do some easy translation job, read long articles in the newspapers and magazines with a speed of less than 130characters/minute, write a composition of less than 600 characters within two hours with a clear topic. Be able to recognize about 1500 Chinese characters. Level 6 Vocabulary: about 3000 Meet high requirements in the job such as business policy, company policy and strategy, hosting a meeting, commodity promotion, international issues, `Chinese history, culture and environment issues and so on, express themselves in a big paragraph with correct grammar, tones and pronunciation, great improved reading comprehension, understand company documents, reports and articles in the newspapers with 10% part of the article not understood. They can recognize about 2000 Chinese characters.

I. Class situation: Besides their "price list" ,the content of the arrangement includes the following:( There is an explanation on the method below)

Junior method:

More than 60% of the time for the students¡¯speaking .

Less than 40% of the time for the teacher¡¯s explanation.

Always Happy and relaxed atmosphere.

Senior method: Stimulate students` speaking, supervised, corrected and trained by the teacher.

II. Teaching conceptions: 

A. Main ideas of Chinese teaching in The Bridge School:

a. Mainly Student¡¯s speaking: student's speaking will occupy more than 60% of the time, and the teacher's lectures will occupy less than 40% of the time. Learning to speak is achieved by speaking practice rather than listening and reading.

b. Do not strictly follow the textbook: the teacher will select the most important expressions from the book and combine them with the student's background, so that the student can learn everyday Chinese quickly.

c. Content focus: Every session will not contain too many new points. For the students, from 5-12 within one session is better than giving 40 points along with teacher's explanation without time for training.

d. Training process: Teacher's explanation 5% Teacher's training 90% Student's demonstration 5%

B. Training: 4 steps at least on each point and have the student use them:

(1) Student's repetition led by the teacher

(2) Questions and answers on the content mentioned in repetitions

(3) Substitution after a small survey of vocabulary

(4) Performance or demonstration of the student's ability .

III. Teachers situation:

(1) Teacher number: Around 100 skilled teachers.

(2) Training process:

a. Every new teacher has to receive at least two months of training whatever his or her previous experiences were. Our experts train them in an operational way: have them to teach real foreign students who are invited by the school and supervised by experts who will help correct and train the teachers. In this way, we unify all teachers in the same style.

b. Film the whole process of training, and have all teachers watch the videotapes.

c. Every morning 8:50 and evening 18:50, we have teachers briefing and discussing their students¡¯ situation.

d. Every week, there is a teachers meeting, focusing on each detailed lesson.

e. Every month, on the first Sunday, there is a workshop for all teachers. Now we often invite some language experts to give our teachers lectures about Chinese language especially for foreigners.

(3) Teachers` background:

a. Full time: All teachers here in our school are full-time teachers.

b. Degree: university degree at least.

c. Majors: Chinese language teaching or human science related.

d. Age: 24-60 years old, but age, teachers` interests, hobbies, previous experiences will not bother The Bridge School`s teaching style.

Every room has two single beds, equipped with air-conditioner, desk and board.

You can share the TV, phone and bathroom with your roommates.

The price: USD10 for one bed, USD20 for one room.

At noon, you can have lunch with our staff.

The lunch is served with traditional Chinese dishes without limitation, rice and porridge. The price is RMB10/person.
