is located in Liaoning Province (C.P.R.). It lies in the southern part of Liaodong Peninsula. It is one of the most important industry based city and main seaport in China. Also, it is the most important opening to a littoral city, covering an area of 12,574 square kilometers and with a population of 5.23 million people.

It is surronded by low mountains and hills. Near the sea, there is a small plain. The coast line is crooked, and there are also many bays. It has the maritime monsoon climate of the warm temperate zone. Dalian has an average annual temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, and an average annual precipitation of 700mm. The black frost period can last 180 to 210 days. The mineral resources are abundant. There is coal, asbestos, lime, silicon, magnesium and copper. Dalian abounds in littoral aquatic products and salt as well.

The industries in Dalian are among the most important in China. Machine and chemical industry are the main fields in this area. Metallurgy, petroleum refinery, textile, food and electronics are developing quickly,too. In recent years, the development of economical technology industries is taking shape. Among its main agricultural products, there are corn, paddy rice, peanuts, beans and tussah cocoon. Fishery and fruit growing are very flourishing, too. The cultivation of sea cucumber, sea tangle, prawn and shell in this area is one of the most important for the Chinese market. Between those, apples growing is the biggest one.

Nest Cliff

The name of this cliff comes from the fact that many swallows make their nests on it every year. The cliff is a major tourist attraction in Dalian because of its marvellous scenery. The sea under the cliff is rich with fishes and excellent for fishing.

Xinghai Park

Xinghai Park, covering 150,000 square meters, is next to a circular beach that is about 800 meters long. In the park there are numerous trees and flowers. A stone-paved path connects all the pavilions, including Wanghai Pavilion and Haiyan Pavilion. On the eastern and western tips of the park there are two beautiful cliffs. Standing on the cliffs, you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the sea. The Xinghai Park Beach is excellent for swimming, as well.

Fujiazhuang Scenic Area

Fujiazhuang Scenic Area, with beautiful hills and beaches, is a major tourist attraction in Dalian. On the west of this scenic area is Fujiazhuang Beach. It is excellent for swimming and one of the four most famous beaches of Dalian.

Service facilities are located on the east of the compound. Here you can see many distinctive houses and buildings surrounded by green mountains.

Shengya Aquarium

Shengya Aquarium is located in Xinghai Bay Resort. It is a joint venture investement by China, New Zealand and Hong Kong. The glass tunnel of the aquarium is long 118 meters. There are about 7000 various fish here.

Tiger Beach

The name of the beach is derived form the fact that a rock coming out from the sea looks like a sleeping tiger. Surrounded by beautiful mountains, Tiger Beach is one of the best beaches in Dalian and excellent for swimming. In the eastern part of the beach, there is a park. In the middle of the park entertainment facilities are to be found. While an aquarium is located in the western part of the beach. Here you can see the largest birdcage in China, which is 36.4 meters long and 7 meters high, coving 18,000 square meters. The largest animal sculpture in the world? It is the sculpture of the tiger which is also located here. On the beach there is a dolphins' performing hall and a cable car crossing the sea.
